This program is an intensive training course for those who own wooded lands and are interested in becoming better stewards of forest resources. Over the course of approximately six weeks, you will receive over 30 hours of instruction on an array of forest-related topics, including ecological principles, tree identification and physiology, general management practices, silvicultural principles, proper tree planting, and economic considerations. Instructors for the program come from a variety of professional backgrounds, including Michigan State University, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, local Conservation Districts, and private industry. This is an exciting program for anyone who has an interest in forestry and natural resources, especially private forest landowners. |
Once you have completed your 30 instructional hours and have become a Master Woodland Manager, you will be asked to volunteer 30 hours to woodland management education efforts over an 18 month period. As a Master Woodland Manager, you can:
| Help your neighbors understand stewardship options for their woodlands, | |
| Work with your local Extension office or Soil Conservation District to assist in local forestry or tree-related workshop opportunities, | |
| Help plant trees in your community, | |
| Answer questions at a forestry information booth during environment-related events, or | |
| Assist with forestry and natural resource education programs in your local school system. |
| Once you have completed the Master Woodland Manager Program, you will also gain other resource benefits, including knowledge of nearby resource professionals and access to more in-depth technical information on forests and forestry. | ![]() |
