The following scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students
in Forestry each year. Application forms are available at the Forestry Department
main office, Room 126 Natural Resources Building.
Undergraduate Scholarships
Alumni Association Senior Award- $200
Pen and pencil set are awarded to the outstanding senior who best combines
scholarship, leadership, activities, and professional promise.
The Bartlett Tree Foundation -

Awarded to outstanding student(s) in Urban Forestry
Carl O. Basel Outstanding Senior Award
- $1000
Awarded to senior(s) having completed at least one academic year in
the Department of Forestry. Requires an outstanding GPA, a written faculty
recommendation, and professional potential.
Robert F. Brevitz Scholarship
- $1000
Awarded to outstanding student(s) in Urban Forestry.
Budres Foundation Scholarships
- variable
Awarded to one junior and one senior on the basis of scholarship, financial
need, and interest in forest management as it relates to the lumber and
furniture industries.
Chapman Foundation Award
- $300
Awarded to a senior who has demonstrated high scholarship and an interest
in forest products and wood utilization.
Theron E. Daw Scholarship
- $2000
Awarded to a junior and/or a senior forestry student on the basis of academic
achievement, financial need, service to the MSU Department of Forestry,
and promise as a professional forester.
Karl Dressel Memorial Award
- $100
Awarded to the outstanding student in Urban Forestry.
Forestry Faculty Senior Scholarship Award
- $500
Awarded to the forestry senior with the highest academic standing.
Garfield Scholarship Award
- $400
Awarded to a student in recognition of exceptional scholarship, achievement,
and leadership.
James Graham Helmbrecht Endowed Scholarship
- $1400
Awarded to a junior or senior forestry student on the basis of academic
achievement, service to the Department of Forestry, and a strong interest
in a career in the area of Urban Forestry.
Clare and Myrtle Hendee Forestry Scholarship
- $1000
Awarded to a junior and/or a senior on the basis of merit, financial need,
and outstanding leadership as demonstrated by service and extra-curricular
activities.
Herbert S. Humphrey Endowed Scholarship
- $2500
Awarded to a forestry student(s) who has demonstrated sound academic
achievement, leadership skills, community commitment and pursuit of
a career in forestry.
Michigan Christmas Tree Association Undergraduate
Scholarship - $200
Awarded to an undergraduate student who has demonstrated interest and
participation in the Christmas tree industry and high scholarship.
Terrill D. Stevens Memorial Forestry
Scholarship - $1200
Awarded to the outstanding senior, based equally on academic scholarship,
integrity, professional attitude and promise, and participation in Forestry
activities.
G. Robert Leavengood
Forestry Scholarship - Variable
Awarded to a junior and/or a senior forestry student of the basis of academic
achievement.
Graduate Scholarships
Michigan Christmas Tree Association Graduate
Scholarship - $300
Awarded to a graduate student who has demonstrated interest and participation
in the Christmas tree industry and high scholarship.
James W. Hanover Forest Biology
Endowed Graduate Scholarship - $1000
Awarded to a graduate student who is currently enrolled in
the field of Forest Biology. The recipient must intend to pursue
a career in the area of woody plants and may be majoring in a
Department outside of the Department of Forestry within MSU.
