Programs
Every year, in collaboration
with the Michigan Christmas Tree Association,
our AoE conducts a number of educational
and training programs. These programs are designed to enhance the
growers knowledge based on the various activities
of the tree production cycle as presented below.

2009 AoE
Program
1. Growing True Fir in the Great Lakes Region – Teams members will develop and implement a regional program on growing true fir. This is a follow-up to a program we held in 1997. The program will highlight new research findings on successfully growing true fir.
2. Worker Safety Training Program – This is a two year project. In 2009 we will focus on field training during follow-up field visits with samples of participating farm workers to reinforce workers’ scouting skills and to evaluate their use of personal protective equipment. Follow-up visits will include informal observation of fieldwork, field instruction and pest identification scouting assistance, and conversations/Q&A with growers and farm workers.
3. Database for web page - This project will collect, organize information related to major Christmas tree species grown in the state, and summarize them in an information system. Growers will be able to access this database through the AoE team website.
